TOUGH WORLD RX WEEKEND FOR AMERICAN TANNER FOUSTDriver returns stateside for U.S. rallycross opener this weekend

LYDDEN HILL, UK (May 24, 2015)
- It was a tough weekend at World RX of Great Britain for Rockstar Energy Drink driver Tanner Foust. The driver, who has won at the Lydden Hill Circuit two of the past three years, battled mechanical problems that dropped him out of contention.

Foust was favored for a strong result at the event, but after a driveshaft broke during a hard start early in the weekend Foust and the Marklund Motorsport team found themselves chasing resulting mechanical issues in the Volkswagen Polo throughout the early heats.

'We have pushed these cars to the limit to get them to achieve 0-60 faster than a Formula One car, to be agile on tarmac as well as dirt, and to make huge jumps,' said Foust. 'While we wish things didn't break in racing, sometimes that's part of it.'

The team was able to quickly diagnose and repair two damaged differentials but, by then, multiple rounds of racing were already done and solid heat results on the second day were not enough to advance Foust into the Semi-Finals.

Foust is running a select season of four events in the World Rallycross Championship this season. He is expected to return to the series for World RX of Canada in August.

But before then, the American driver will start his Global Rallycross Championship campaign this coming weekend in Ft. Lauderdale May 31. Foust, a two-time champion in the series, will race a full season for the title with the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team.

Foust returns to GRC this year in the Rockstar Energy Drink Volkswagen Beetle, which he debuted last summer with a heat win at its first race in Los Angeles. The team has been working on the vehicle's development in the off-season, with Foust and teammate Scott Speed traveling to Germany for test sessions behind the wheel.

'We had the full gamut of Volkswagen Motorsport and Andretti Autosport engineers cranking out some serious brainpower to learn more about this amazing Beetle,' said Foust. 'I think we have a stronger machine this year in every way and I can't wait to stack it up against the competition.'

After the Ft. Lauderdale race, which airs live on NBC at 3 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Foust will travel to Austin, Texas, for the one-off RallyCar competition at X Games. The action sport festival takes place June 4 to 7 at Circuit of the Americas with the RallyCar competition scheduled for Saturday, June 6 and airing on ABC.
