OPEN ‘SAMPLER DAY' FOR RENAULT UK CLIO CUP JUNIOR TEAMS AND DRIVERS CONFIRMEDTeams looking to join the new Renault UK Clio Cup Junior championship in 2017 are inviting prospective drivers to test their cars at an exclusive 'sampler day' at the Blyton Park venue in Lincolnshire (Sunday 30 October).

Two three-hour sessions will provide teams and drivers – the championship is aimed at 14 to 17-year-olds – with plenty of time to work together with cars in 'Junior' trim.

Track time is being offered for 'free' with drivers asked only to contribute towards a team's running costs.

Renault Sport UK will be present throughout to offer those on track valuable technical support and advice. This will be backed up by a full parts service with R Sport – Renault Sport's appointed UK parts supplier – also in attendance.

Furthermore each team will supply an expert instructor to offer in-car tuition to youngsters when they are on track.

Renault Sport UK's own Junior-spec car – again complete with instructor – will also be made available to drive.

The Renault UK Clio Cup Junior championship will launch in 2017 and be for 14 to 17-year-old drivers in cars almost identical to those used in the senior Renault UK Clio Cup which features at the British Touring Car Championship's high-profile events.

However to meet strict Junior racing regulations the cars will be limited to 100mph and have five gears (not six) with a simple modification to the ECU. They will also race on road tyres – Michelin's high performance Pilot Sport 3.

Those wishing to book places at Blyton on 30 October and looking to join the UK Clio Cup Junior grid for 2017 are urged to contact Renault Sport UK's Motorsport Championship Manager Will Fewkes will.fewkes-extern@renault.co.uk

He commented: 'The interest in our new Junior championship is tremendous so a sampler day of this nature makes perfect sense. Certainly, having listened to teams on the current UK Clio Cup grid as well as the number of enquiries from other areas, we expect a lot of activity at Blyton.

'Teams have agreed to run just one car each, with only eight cars permitted on track at any one time – this is to keep things fair for everyone and to prevent 'over-crowding' on track. The day after all is about letting drivers and teams really find out about the UK Clio Cup Junior car together.

'We very much look forward to welcoming a number of new faces on the day – particularly as for many of them this could be the start of a very successful and exciting racing career.'
