June 14, 2017 by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles•New Amarok is top of the class in Pick-Up category of Tow Car Awards 2017 •Judges examine all elements of vehicle's performance when towing and solo •Volkswagen Amarok cited as 'the most capable pick-up we've tested' •Awards are joint venture from Practical Caravan, What Car? and The Camping and Caravanning Club Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles' Amarok has picked up the Best Pick-Up award at the Tow Car Awards 2017. Now in its eleventh year, the Tow Car Awards is a joint venture organised and judged by Practical Caravan, What Car? and The Camping and Caravanning Club. All the cars entered go through a rigorous test process, with the judges seeking vehicles which tow brilliantly, have practical features to make a tow car driver's life easy, and which will be enjoyable to live with every day. The final scoring also reflects a car's value for money, safety standards and resale values. Out of all the pick-ups tested, the Volkswagen Amarok 3.0-litre TDI 224 PS Aventura was judged to be the finest. Summing up the evaluation, David Motton, Tow Car Editor of Practical Caravan magazine, said: 'Pick-ups haven't been covered in glory at past Tow Car Awards, but we're so impressed by the Amarok that we've given it a gong. 'The big VW felt secure and reassuring while towing. Its performance on the brakes – a weak point of many pick-ups in the past – also impressed.' It was awarded four out of a possible five stars with the conclusion that the Amarok was 'the most capable pick-up we've tested at the Tow Car Awards'. The latest version of the Amarok went on sale in the UK in December 2016. It now has a refreshed external look, a new 3.0-litre V6 TDI engine (making it the only six-cylinder model in the segment), an all-new interior and the latest in in-car infotainment systems and technology. As well as the winning model at the awards, the range-topping 224 PS engine with eight-speed auto gearbox in special edition launch Aventura trim, other versions are available. A 204 PS automatic is also offered, with a manual 204 PS to follow along with a 163 PS manual later in the year. Standard specifications follow the pattern of Volkswagen's other commercial vehicles, ranging from Startline, through Trendline to Highline.
