2nd annual Concours d'Elegance of Texas Company press release.
Entries are rolling in for the 2nd annual Concours d'Elegance of Texas, a highlight of this year's Houston Classic Weekend, scheduled for May 3-5 at the award winning La Torretta Lake Resort & Spa in Montgomery, Texas. With 'The Cars of Carroll Shelby' as the Featured Class, organizers have confirmed the only big block DragonSnake Cobra ever built as one of the stars of the show, owned by automotive dealer, collector and philanthropist, Mr. Sam Pack of Carrollton, Texas. Alongside the cars of Carroll Shelby, 18 individual classes will recognize a distinct range of marques and eras, with other exciting entries including a multiple award winning1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Cabriolet de Ville, owned by Mr. James Hery of Belfast, Tennessee, with a one-off body by Henry Binder that was used by Franklin Mint in 1988 for their P1 model.
'Muscle car enthusiasts will also enjoy a very special1969 Chevelle COPO Malibu with something of a romantic history, ' said Mike Ames, Concours Chairman. ' Current owner, Mr. Roger Day of Double Oak, Texas, was also the Chevelle's first owner, acquiring the vehicle in 1969, enjoying his very first date with his wife of 42 years in the car, trading it back in 1970, then tracking it down and buying it back in 2011. It is one of 323 COPO Chevelles produced in 1969 and one of only three 'Leeds' plant Chevelles ever built. We are thrilled by the quality and diversity of this year's entries and promise visitors another spectacular weekend with something for everyone.'
The Houston Classic Weekend kicks off on Friday, May 3, 2013, with the Texas Tour d'Elegance, when Concours participants take to the open road on a 50-mile scenic tour, breaking for a distinctly Texan lunch. Worldwide Auctioneers' The Houston Classic Auction is on Saturday, May 4, promising collectors another world-class line up of motorcars in a catalogue format auction, staged in La Torretta's Versailles Ballroom. The entertainment continues that evening with The Cowboys and Cars Strolling Dinner, an informal evening set around the pool, with the Concours d'Elegance of Texas on Sunday, May 5. Concours organizers have designated an area immediately adjacent to the Concours grounds for Classic Car Clubs to display their vehicles as a group, with the exclusive offer of a pair of free tickets to Sunday's Concours and Worldwide Auctioneers' The Houston Classic Auction on Saturday. The offer is only available to invited club members who pre-register by April 15, so clubs are reminded to register early to avoid disappointment.
Automotive artist Lisa Daniels has created the original poster artwork for the 2013 Concours d'Elegance of Texas. Her paintings, drawings and stained glass windows are to be found in auto dealerships, restaurants, galleries and in the Rolls Royce Owner's Club Headquarters, as well as in numerous private collections.
The Concours d'Elegance of Texas is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit and is proud to support the Holy Angels Residential Facility, Montgomery County Emergency Assistance and Collectors Foundation as its main charities. In 2012, The Houston Classic Weekend in its totality proudly helped contribute nearly $1million to charitable causes. Those unable to attend this year's event in person may still become a Friend of the Concours and make a donation. All donations are gratefully received, support some remarkable charities, and are fully tax deductible.
