 Last weekend saw the 11th annual Houston Classic Auction get off to a flying start at its upscale new venue, La Torretta Lake Resort & Spa in Montgomery, Texas. The Versailles Ballroom of the award winning resort was packed throughout the nine- hour sale on Saturday, May 5, when an arresting selection of 119 handpicked motorcars went under the hammer, along with an eclectic collection of memorabilia from the Paul J. Meyer Estate Collection. The auction recorded over 85% of consignments finding new homes. The event attracted global interest, with buyers from Israel, Greece, Germany and the United Kingdom all enjoying winning bids. Full Classics were once again well represented at the Houston Classic Auction, with sales going to a spectacular 1932 Duesenberg Model J LWB Speedster, which hammered sold for $297,000. An ACD Category 1 certified 1937 Cord 812 'Sportsman' Convertible Coupe brought $242.000 and a beautifully restored1931 Cord L29 Cabriolet and rare 1979 Duesenberg II Boattail Speedster each sold for $220,000, the latter setting a new record. Notable sports cars sales went to Bloomington Gold certified 1953 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster, which found a new home for $209,000, whilst a gorgeous 1958 AC Ace Bristol Roadster brought $181,500 and a special order 1968 Porsche 911S hammered sold for $118,250. The Houston Classic Auction also featured an impeccable selection of 1936 Fords from the Paul J. Meyer Estate Collection, which along with Memorabilia from the same collection realized a total of over $800,000 donated by the family to the Paul and Jane Meyer Family Foundation which supports more than 30 charities across the world. Visitors to the Houston Classic Auction might also find themselves on an upcoming episode of a new automotive TV show. Legendary hot rod builders Gas Monkey Garage had created two one of a kind special vehicles especially for the auction, which were sold on Saturday at no reserve, with the action all caught live on film for the upcoming TV series - Fast n Loud.  The 11th annual Houston Classic Auction was held in conjunction with the inaugural Concours d'Elegance of Texas as part of the Houston Classic weekend, a three-day celebration of vintage motoring held on La Torretta Lake Resort & Spa's beautiful lakeside grounds.
