 Maranello, 17 May –Yesterday, the Aula Magna at the Barozzi di Modena Technical Commercial Institute hosted the start of the road safety campaign backed by the Ferrari Driver Academy, with Polstrada. There were over fifty students from seven schools in attendance as two of the Maranello based Academy youngsters, Raffaele Marciello and Brandon Maisano illustrated the differences between driving on road and track and what rules to observe in both situations, with the aid of films and simulations of what can happen in racing and everyday life. 'We wanted to show that a road is not a race track and that, driving safely and obeying the rules can save lives,' the race drivers told the audience who were the same age as them. The two youngsters made an excellent case of stressing the importance of respecting the rules. 'As professional drivers we are rigorous in taking steps to avoid dangerous situations and drivers on the road need to be equally prudent.'
On the same day, their Canadian colleague Lance Stroll took part in the 'Kart in piazza 2012' karting event, an initiative promoted by Automobile Clubs, along with the CSAI and Aci Sport, which gave the opportunity for a lot of children to try their hand at karting for the first time. On a track specifically laid out outside the Ferrari Museum, kitted out with traffic lights and intersections, the little kids learned first hand about the rules of priority and the significance of road signs. Today, the campaign activity took place in the Piazza Grande at Modena with the 'Ferrari Park' event which featured a display of cars used to train the Academy drivers, including a Formula 1 car, alongside Polstrada trucks, driving simulator and an information point open to the public.
