Many of the world's most important motorcars have changed hands in Auburn, Indiana, over the years and Worldwide looks set to continue the tradition this Labor Day Weekend. Visitors to the fifth annual, The Auburn Auction, can anticipate the usual spectacular selection of significant pre and post-war American classics, while the ex-Sir Stirling Moss 1966 Shelby GT350 Race Car is just one of an exciting line up of rare and exotic sports and race cars also slated to go under the hammer. The Auburn Auction is a two evening catalogue sale scheduled to take place at the National Auto & Truck Museum (NATMUS), which is, along with the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum, a singular National Historic Landmark. All Ford Friday kicks the weekend off on the evening of August 31, showcasing a selection of important Fords, with The Main Event scheduled for Saturday evening on September 1, once again featuring eighty exceptional automobiles.
'Auburn has a long and proud history as the Classic Car Capital of the World and it's a tradition we're honored to carry forward', said Rod Egan, Principal & Chief Auctioneer. 'As ever, we've assembled a great collection of significant classics for the serious collector at The Auburn Auction, with consignments including a superb1932 Auburn 12-160A Boattail Speedster, outstanding1934 Packard Twelve 1108 Sport Phaeton and 1931 Cadillac V12 Convertible Coupe, one of only twelve in existence. We are also excited to be offering our customers the unique opportunity to acquire an important piece of Ford history- THE 2004 Ford GT Factory Test Mule. We are thrilled to be auctioning this very noteworthy supercar on behalf of our friends at NATMUS, with proceeds benefiting the museum itself'.
Sports car aficionados are in for another rare treat. Along with the ex-Sir Stirling Moss 1966 Shelby GT350 Race Car, which comes fully documented and race ready with FIA papers, is a 1966 Shelby GT350 Fastback, offered at no reserve, being one of only five to ever receive the coveted SAAC Division 1 Premiere Award, and a 1966 Shelby GT350 Hertz ISCA champion. All will cross the block during All Ford Friday along with the Ford GT Factory Test Mule and a one of a kind 1934 Ford V8 'Strathglass' Woodie Wagon, with known, important history. The Burr Joslin Estate Collection of Motorcars & Memorabilia is also consigned to go under the hammer, an exciting no reserve collection from a lifetime employee of the Ford Motor Company. Proceeds from All Ford Friday will partially benefit the Early Ford V8 Museum & Foundation.
Among the rare and interesting cars consigned to line up alongside the sizable selection of pre-war classics slated for Saturday evening's signature catalogue auction, The Main Event, is a scarcely seen 1953 Woodill Wildfire Series II Roadster, one of only five ever built by the factory, with 1600 actual miles and known ownership history. Other entrants include a 1973 Porsche 911S Coupe complete with Porsche certificate of authenticity and for some fun, a 1964 Amphicar 770 Convertible, one of only a few built and one of the last one-owner, low mileage examples left in existence, with only 7,000 miles from new.
