The Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival & Concours d'Elegance, one of the nation's signature automobile events, is proud to announce the addition of legendary racing stars, to the already packed Savannah Speed Classic agenda. The scenic river-view site of Hutchinson Island in Savannah will be alive with not only the roar of vintage race cars, off-road drives through the woods, Hot Lap rides at speed, but some of history's greatest automotive influences including Hurley Haywood, Brian Redman, Tommy Milner, David Donahue and Elliott Forbes Robinson.
The 2012 Speed Classic Race Panel-themed 'Stars of American Racing' features a diverse group of drivers whose varied experiences cover the breadth of competing and succeeding in the top racing circuits. The relaxed atmosphere of the Panel, which will be held at 12:30pm on both Saturday and Sunday, October 27 & 28 and is free to all Speed Classic attendees, encourages the drivers to offer candid perspectives on their experiences on the world's greatest tracks.
This year features the return of Hurley Haywood, the Motoring Festival's 2010 Honorary Chairman. Known as the 'most prolific sports-endurance driver of all time,' Hurley boasts thirty-seven starts for the Rolex 24 at Daytona, which he won five times. In 2010 he was inducted into the Sebring Hall of Fame and the Legends of the Glen Hall of Fame. He continues to be an inspiration to his fellow Brumos Porsche team and is the Chief Instructor in the Porsche Sport Driving School.
When it comes to legends, Brian Redman covers the gambit of sportscar racing, Can Am and Formula One. This British-born statesman competed in fifteen World Championship Grand Prix and is known for his many successes in Porsche, Ferrari and BMW racers. In his later career he focused on endurance racing, including winning the 12 Hours of Sebring, the Daytona 24 Hours and many visits to Le Mans. After close to forty years of professional racing, Redman continues making his mark on the historic racing circuit and in 2002 was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame.
