1935 Buick Series 40 Convertible Coupe

David Dunbar Buick used the proceeds of an invention to finance his dream of building a motor car. He had devised a way to coat cast iron with enamel to create a late 1800's status symbol; the white bathtub. He began producing cars, but ran into financial problems and eventually sold out to William Durant who created General Motors. Buick became one of the corporation's cornerstones. Mr. Buick, however, died almost penniless in Detroit in 1929.

1935 was the last year that Buick used a total wood frame body and mechanical brakes. This vehicle features Buick's straight eight overhead valve engine which, according to the sales brochure, guaranteed a top speed of 85 mph although the speedometer went up to 100 mph. The total production of the 46C model was 933 units. The base price was $925.

The current owner purchased this car in 1970. A restoration was completed in 1980 and was followed by a second, comprehensive restoration in the early 2000's. The car retains its original radio, clock and trunk. It features the original factory color, Runnymeade Green.
