1962 Volvo P1800 Sport Coupe

Volvo introduced its P 1800 in 1961 at the Brussels Motor Show. It was given a stylish design with a sleek curvaceous body, distinctive tailfins, and a sloping roofline.

Production continued for over a decade, ending in 1973 with various changes made over the years. Construction of the largely hand-assembled British Jensen-built P 1800 car was soon moved to Sweden, where the process was streamlined and modernized.

This 1962 Volvo P 1800 is an early hand-built Jensen model equipped with many notable features such as an egg-crate grille, cowl vent, 'C' pillar Volvo script, 'bullhorn' front bumper, and Robergel wire wheels. It has a production date of August 31, 1962, and left the factory with a Dark Metallic Grey (#71) exterior with a Red (#301) interior - the same color combination it wears today.

As an early Jensen car, this P 100 has many hand-installed pieces, including the plated solid brass strips on the door panels and a chrome-plated brass trim surround on the individual rear jump seats.

This Volvo has been given a comprehensive restoration, and the work was rewarded with an Excellence In Class award at the 2022 Boca Raton Concours d'Elegance and the Spartina Class award at the 2023 Hilton Head Concours d'Elegance.
