1949 Volkswagen Beetle Sedan

This Volkswagen Beetle was owned by Kraftwerk's founding member Florian Schneider. Kraftwerk is often described in the music press as 'the world's most influential band' and is held in the same esteem by British and European audiences as luminaries like David Bowie or The Beetles.

The current owners, regarded as (perhaps) America's biggest Kraftwerk fans, acquired the car after Florian tragically passed away in 2001. His sister Claudia Schneider contacted the current owners about the sale by his estate. Interested, they flew to Mettmann outside of Dusseldorf and negotiated the purchase with the consignor entrusted with the sale. A deal was struck and the car was sent to Amsterdam to be loaded in a 20-foot container for its five-month journey to the United States.

The car, wearing an accurate restoration, is finished in grey on grey with no chrome or brightwork, and is how it left the post-war factory in 1949. The engine was fitted by the artisan who did the restoration for Florian Schneider and produces five additional horsepower over its original (stock) configuration.

The car's first concours after arriving in the United States was at the Gasparilla Concours in December of 2022, where it placed third in class. In 2023 it was shown at the Amelia Island Concours.
