The Aston Martin DB6 sat on a platform that was extended 3.75-inches over the DB5 and made the rear seats upholstered in Connolly leather more comfortable and usable. The body panels of the car were hand-formed aluminum and it continued the tradition of a proper GT motor car. This was a tradition that began with the Aston Martin DB4 which had made its debut in 1949.
This DB6 was built on March 16th of 1966 and was finished in Fiesta Red and given a black interior. It was delivered to Crabtree and Nichol of Sheffield, England, and later purchased by Henry Wigfall & Son Ltd. The car, equipped with chrome road wheels, a heated rear screen and a Motorola Radio with power aerial, was used as a company car for the company's Managing Director.
In the 1980s, the car came into the care of its second owner, Stephen Ross, who brought it to Calgary, Canada. It was converted to left-hand drive configuration and given power steering in 1985. By the mid-1990s, the car had been refinished in its original Fiesta Red and from 2005 to 2006 it was given an extensive professional restoration.
In 2006, the car was sold to Brian Bord of California, who sold it a year later to the current owner. The car is still in its factory-correct Fiesta Red with proper chrome wire wheels and a heated rear screen. There is an original Aston martin tool roll and tolls as well as the original service manual and owner's manual. It is a matching numbers car with a known history from new and has been fitted with several carefully executed upgrades. It is powered by a 3994cc dual overhead cam inline six-cylinder engine offering 282 horsepower. There is a five-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel disc brakes.
In 2009, this matching-numbers restored DB6 was offered for sale at the Automobiles of Amelia Island auction presented by RM Auctions. It was expected to sell for $150,000 - $200,000. It sold for a high bid of $121,000, including buyer's premium.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2009
