This 300SL 'Gullwing' Coupe was originally purchased by Ronnie Hawkins of the singing group, the Hawks.
Don Tyson of Tyson Foods won the car in a high stakes poker game in 1961. Tyson took the car home and his six-year-old daughter fell in love with the car. Fast forward eight years. His 14 year-old daughter decided to take the car for a joy ride while her parents were out of town. After an encounter with a guard rail that left her unhurt, she returned the car to the garage and did not inform her parents when they returned. Needless to say, Don was not happy and sent the car to be repaired.
Don's daughter, Carla, the current owner, received this car as a gift on her 18th birthday. In 2006, the car was fitted with an aluminum block engine from the factory. Cars fitted with the aluminum block were used for racing.
This car was given a complete restoration at Coachworks in 2008.Also photographed at :
