Ferrari needed a serious car to satisfy his private customers who wanted a simple, classic, fast and semi-luxurious, stimulating to drive, GT car. Pininfarina was asked to design such a model. Introduced at the Milan Auto Show in 1958, Ferrari had sold 335 within 18 months. One such buyer was Prince Bertil of Sweden. Most of the cars were very much the same, the very last had a Superfast tail to counter this. The notchback styling was effective and memorable.
