The SS version included a high-output 305 CID V8, a high-stall speed torque converter, automatic transmission, dual exhausts, 3.42:1 rear axle ratio, low profile RWL radial tires and rally wheels. Monte Carlo SS models carried no bright work, had a wind-tunnel tuned nose, a small rear spoiler and a drag coefficient of just .375. Chevrolet produced 136,780 Monte Carlos during the model year and a total of 24,050 were SS models.
