1970 Porsche 917This Porsche 917/LH (Lang Heck) long tail was built specifically for Le Mans. It was entered by the Salzburg team driven by Vic Elford and Kurt Ahrens Jr. and set on the pole with an average speed of 242 kph. Vic and Kurt battled with the Gulf 917K of Siffert/Redman until rain slowed the car. They battled back-and-forth during the night and retired with a blown engine at 8:30am. In 1971, the car raced its second and final race at Le Mans as #21 Martini Racing entry driven by Vic Elford and Gerard Larrouse. Qualifying 2nd, the car ran in the top 5 until its engine expired at 9:25pm, thus ending its racing career.
