The Star Chief Custom Safari station wagon was the most expensive Pontiac offered in 1955. Factory price was $2,962 without options and accessories (a convertible coupe was $2,691). A total of 3,760 station wagons were built in 1955.
Power came from Pontiac's own Silver Streak, 287 cubic-inch overhead valve V-8 motor, the first year Pontiac offered an OHV motor. Two barrel carburetor was standard but an optional 'power pack' engine with four-barrel carburetor became available in mid-year production.
Interestingly, the body on this Pontiac Station Wagon was built in 1955 in Cleveland, Ohio at a GM Fisher Body Plant. The car was restored several years ago to as-original condition.
