Following the re-building years of 1974 and 1975 and when Vittorio Brambilla won the very wet Austrian Grand Prix, Robin Herd produced another basic, straight forward, chassis. Low cost to build, easy to maintain and repair, a critical design criteria for the Beta Utensili car, the 761 was fast in a straight line. When combined with the driving talent of Ronnie Peterson and courage of Vittorio Brambilla, they were always at the shard end of the grid in qualifying. Mechanical unreliability, the team's budget for the entire season was just £35,000, and more than few 'offs' produced a few finishes in the points, save for Ronnie Peterson's popular victory at Monza in the 1976 Italian Grand Prix.
