This is the actual 1992 IMSA SuperCar championship-winning Porsche Turbo. Driven as the #58 car by Joe Varde, Don Knowles and Hans Stuck to back-up Hurley Haywood's 91 SuperCar Drivers Championship as #58, it was renumbered in Brumos' traditional number #59 for the 1992 season when it won the SuperCar championship for Porsche. Brumos raced two S-2 Turbos in 1991, 1992 & 1993. The pair was nicknamed 'Bob' (#59) and Leo (#58) because the SuperCar series was sponsored by Bridgestone, though Brumos had long been Goodyear Tire loyalists. The two cars were named for Goodyear's director of racing, Leo Mehl and IMSA representative Bob Schaefer.
The car is powered by a 3.3 liter turbocharged engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission with 4-wheel disc/ABS brakes and capable of 0-60 mph in 4.52 seconds.
Today, Brumos' Championship-winning SuperCar is employed at Brumos University. Chief Instructor/Vice President, Hurley Haywood, takes students for fast laps at speeds up to 160 mph in the actual car to win the IMSA SuperCar Championship in 1992.
