The Alfa Romeo TZ2 made its debut at the 1965 Geneva Salon and production lasted until mid-1967. The TZ nomenclature stands for 'Tubolare Zagato,' denoting the car's tubular chassis and the famous coachbuilder's involvement in its design and engineering. The prototype car, built by Alfa's competition department Autodelta, was given an all-alloy body shell designed by Ercole Spada for Zagato. Twelve subsequent cars were molded from this and built with glass fiber.
This TZ2 is the last of these to be built and was a factory team car for its first year before being sold to Aldo Bardelli. After two years of racing, mainly in Italy, the car was entered in the 1969 Targa Florio but crashed on the second lap with Bardelli driving. The current owner acquired this car in 2011.
