Near the close of 1955, Jaguar announced what was retrospectively dubbed the Mark 1 Saloon. The unibody monocoque method of construction was a first for Jaguar, as it was a type of manufacture in which the shell doubled as the chassis. This method saved weight and it enhanced the structural rigidity. Power was originally from a 2.4-liter powerplant, but the 3.4-liter and 3.8-liter engine joined the range in 1957 and 1959, respectively.
The Mark 2 Saloon was introduced in 1959. It had larger windows, more slender roof supports, and the interior was redesigned and updated. The rear axle became much wider, and the performance was drastically increased.
This particular example has been restored to exhaustive standards. It was given a photo-documented restoration that led to a perfect 100-point score in the Jaguar Club of North America's national competition two times. The body is finished in elegant Regency Red over tan leather. The interior features period air conditioning. The car rides on chrome wire wheels with wide whitewall tires. Under the bonnet is a dual overhead cam six-cylinder engine displacing 3781cc and offering 220 horsepower. There is a four-speed automatic with overdrive and four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes.By Daniel Vaughan | Feb 2014
