Looking like a final ride for Al Capone or John Dillinger, this 1934 Henney Arrowline is actually a cleverly disguised Pierce-Arrow. Built by the Henney Motor Car Co. in Freeport, Illinois, the Arrowline was the top-of-the-line hearse for Henney.
During the 1934-1937 partnership, Pierce-Arrows were shipped from Buffalo, New York, to Henney and stripped of every identifying badge, including the grille medallion, hub caps, and even the name from the dashboard clock. As part of the modification process, the car was lengthened and covered with 18-gauge steel. The three-way doors allowed pallbearers to load or remove a heavy casket from the hearse.
The hearse features a straight 8-cylinder engine. It was sold to a funeral home in Los Angeles, California, where it's said it carried several noteworthy people to their final rest at local cemeteries like Forest Lawn and Hollywood Memorial.
Pierce-Arrow went bankrupt in 1937; this 1934 Henney Arrowline is one of only two known to still exist.
