For the 1974 model year, Porsche introduced the 'H' Series 911. They incorporated some major structural, mechanical, and cosmetic changes to bring their 911 models inline with stringent U.S. safety and emissions regulations. Perhaps the most visible change were the impact-absorbing aluminum bumpers in both the front and the back. To help absorb the impact, the inner structures at both end were reinforced. The hood was shortened, and the doors were reinforced internally. The front corner lights and reflectors were incorporated into the rubber bumper trim. Between the taillight assembles sat a new center reflector. Suspension upgrades, a larger fuel tank, and a single battery installed into the left-front corner of the trunk were additional changes. Inside, there were new high-backed seats.
For 1975, Porsche offered the 911 S and Carrera to the US public, both came with the same 2.7-liter engine fitted with K-Jetronic fuel injection. The Carrera models had flared fenders and wider wheels, along with a rubber-edged whale-tail rear spoiler, front rubber spoiler, and Carrera trim package.
This Porsche 911 Carrera Targa 2.7 left the factory on November 28th of 1974 and was sent to Kline-Giganti Porsche-Audi in Indianapolis, Indiana. The car had been requested to be finished in Bitter Chocolate (code 408) with a contrasting gold Carrera decal set and gold-painted wheel centers. The interior was trimmed in Cinnamon (36) leatherette.
The buyer, named Dr. Wilbur Sandbulte, requested a standard 'narrow' body configuration, without the wider fender flares, and a folding top panel. The car was also optioned with below-the-bumper fog lamps, a rear-window wiper, and Dunlop tires.
Dr. Thomas Helfst of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania became the car's owner in November of 2007. He had it sent to Peter Dawe at Dawe's Motorsports Development, for a full engine overhaul with new valves and rings, a rebuilding of the alternator, the installation of new shock absorbers, strut inserts, and new brakes. This, along with additional work to the vehicle, totaled more than $17,000. Since the rebuild, The car has been driven barely 600 miles.
Currently, this car has just over $59,000 miles. It has its original Blaupunkt stereo radio, owner's manual, warranty book, tool kit, jack, spare and air compressor.By Daniel Vaughan | Sep 2015
