The CJ-5 was introduced in 1954 and survived until 1984. It was slightly larger than its predecessor, the CJ-3B, and was based on the 1951 M38A1. The CJ-5 featured a new instrument panel, a larger windshield, improved brakes and suspension, and a hand brake. It had a fully boxed cross-member frame and flanged, overlapped sheet metal for increased strength. During its lifespan, it would be powered by several different engines including 4-, 6-, and 8-cylinder variants. The engines ranged from GM-built units, to Perkins diesel's, to Jeep's very own power plants. Power was sent to all four wheels through the choice of 3 or 4-speed transmissions.
This particular CJ-5 has been in the care of its current owner for over a decade. It has been treated to an extensive restoration where it received new paint, a new interior, a new soft top, and an overhaul of the mechanics. It has recently been given a number of modifications. It has been lifted using rough country suspension system components, 33-inch mud country tires, and American Racing wheels. It was given exhaust and intake snorkels. There is a T-MAX winch fitted to the front bumper and there is a new, high-powered stereo system. The 304 cubic-inch V8 engine has a single two-barrel carburetor and produces 150 horsepower. There is a three-speed transmission and front disc brakes.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2016
