Built from 1931 to 1942, Series 90 Buicks are the most luxurious and grand Buicks ever produced, representing the pinnacle of Buick design and engineering during this era. By any standard, the 1941 Limited is the ultimate prewar Buick, outperforming all previous Buicks in power, ride quality and appointments. Built on Buick's largest chassis, the Limited series was powered by Buick's largest and most powerful OHV straight eight. The big news for Buick in 1941 was compound carburetion, the forerunner to the four-barrel carburetor and the multi-carb setups so loved by car manufacturers following World War II. Optional on Specials and standard on all other models, a pair of Stromberg carburetors extracted more power from Buick's 320 CID Fireball straight-eight - good enough for 165 horsepower on Limited's. It was the highest horsepower standard production engine available from any car in America; 15 horsepower more than the engine used in that year's Cadillac! It would be another 11 years before any Buick engine exceeded this horsepower rating.
Buick's engine advancements, along with its famous torque tube drive, X-frame, and 'full float' coil springs suspension, enabled the massive 139-inch wheelbase Limited to compare favorably with the most expensive 1941 Cadillacs, Packards, and Chrysler Crown Imperials - with an arguably superior ride, better interior trim, and higher-quality fittings.
Delivered new in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, this car was given a partial restoration following its purchased. The beautiful original upholstery features the rare two-tone blue and gray broadcloth along with a Super-Sonomatic shortwave five-band radio, underseat heater and defroster, and an equally rare backlight sun shade. A total of 906 were built for 1941, including 21 export models.
