Currently showing just 40 miles on its odometer, this Camaro began as an early 1970, base model 6-cylinder car at the B.J. Stott Chevrolet dealership in North Carolina. Southern style match racing was immensely popular at the time, and the dealer gave this car to Jim Little, who built it into Pro Stock configuration. It is now powered by an aluminum 430 CID Can-Am RPO-ZL1 tunnel ram engine.
The Chevrolet 'skunk works' racing engine, (while the corporate claim was 'we don't race'), weighed just 460 pounds and produced 670 horsepower. The car was lightened with a fiberglass front end and hood. It was campaigned from April through September of 1970 as part of the Dick Harrell racing team. Chevrolet dealer Fred Gibb later bought the car and his crew converted it from Pro Stock to Super Stock configuration. It was then campaigned by Herb Fox and his crew chief Glenn Wright. Featured in the May 1971 issue of Rodder and Super Stock magazine, it was reported at the time that its best quarter-mile pass was 9.98 seconds at 138.40 mph.
Later sold, its Illinois buyer would campaign the car for several years in bracket racing. This Camaro has never been licensed or titled for street use, having racked up over 100 quarter-mile passes in competition. Some of them were in its current configuration, showing modern safety up-dates as raced in the Midwest Prostalgia Pro Stock class, where it recent best run was 9.50 seconds at 140 MPH.
