This Model L Lincoln from 1927 was originally a Missouri car, believed to have been used to transport Harry Truman when he was the Presiding Judge of Jackson County and Kansas City.
1927 was the fifth year of the Lincoln L production under the ownership of The Ford Motor Company with Edsel Ford leading the Lincoln Division. It was also the first year that four wheel brakes became standard. In fact, Edsel referred to this upgrade in standard equipment as a 'six brake system' having internal drum brakes on all four corners and two external parking/emergency brake bands on the rear axle. Additionally, the Lincoln Motor Division guaranteed the car to go at least 70 mph, with its strong 60 degree Flat Head V8 engine, originally designed by Henry Leland.
This particular example wears a custom Opera Coupe Body, Style number 702, produced by the Judkins Coach Company, Merrimac, Mass. According to Judkin's records at the Gilmore Museum, this body, number 5-9783, made of wood and aluminum, was completed in August of 1926 making the car an early 1927 model.
This automobile has been in the current caretakers ownership for the past four years, during which time it has been driven extensively at local, as well as national tours, along with presenting the car at regional and national shows. The car received the 'Best Car On Tour' award at the Lincoln Homecomings in 2015 and again in 2016. Prior to the current caretakers ownership, this Lincoln, purchased out of New York State, was restored and remained in the same family's possession for well over forty years, before it was purchased in 2014, making its restoration very close to fifty years old.
