1960 Ford Thunderbird Convertible

This 1960 Ford Thunderbird Convertible was offered for sale at the 2007 Sports and Classic Car Auction presented by The Worldwide Group, in Hilton Head Island, SC where it was estimated to sell for $25,000 - $35,000. It was offered without reserve. It is powered by a 312 cubic-inch V8 engine with overhead valves and fitted with a Cruise-O-Matic three-speed transmission.

The 1960 Thunderbirds were known as the 'Square Birds', due to their unique square shape which made them very different from the first generation Thunderbird.

This car has resided in the same collection for many years. It is finished in factory opulent white with black and white interior and accents. It has many of the factory options including power steering, power windows, power brakes, factory AM radio, and a power operated top.

For 1960 the Thunderbird was offered as a two-door hardtop coupe or a convertible. The Coupe was more popular with a total of 80,938 examples created. A total of 11,860 examples of the convertible were produced and carried a factory base price of around $4,220. The Hardtop versions had a base price of $3750.

Since it had no reserve, the bidder with the high bid would become the new owner. For this vehicle, bidding fell short of the estiamted value, settling at $19,250. The lot was sold.
