1959 Kurtis 500J Roadster

  • Chassis Number: KK500-J-120/7
Frank Kurtis built two 500 J cars which were among the last of the Kurtis 'Roadsters.' This car was built for Roy McKay, a construction business owner from Youngstown, Ohio, to run in the 1959 Indianapolis 500. It was driven by Chuck Weyant and qualified at 29th with a speed of 141.95 mph.

Weyant came in 28th place due to an accident. In 1960 McKay returned his Kurtis 500J to Indy with Gene Force at the wheel. Force qualified at 20th with a speed of 143.47 mph. He left after the race after 74 laps with brake problems.

Currently, the car is in its 1960 form and retains the original body, lavender McKay Special livery, and rare 255 cubic-inch Offenhauser engine.
