1937 Cadillac Series 90 V16 Aero-Dynamic Coupe

The 'Aero-Dynamic Coupe' was introduced as a prototype at the 1932 World's Fair and joined the Cadillac lineup as a production model in 1933. The V-16 models were built on a massive 154 cubic-inch wheelbase chassis, the longest ever used on a Cadillac production car, and sold for $8,100. Fleetwood produced 20 of the ultra-streamlined five-passenger bodies through 1937, eight of which were mounted on the V-16 chassis. This example is the very last Aero-Dynamic Coupe built. After a few minutes behind the wheel of this car, you really forget that it is more than 70 years old. V-16 Cadillacs from the late 30s were very modern and they had a kind of sensational styling that affected the entire automotive industry worldwide. Harley Earl headed the design team responsible for styling this icon of the classic era.

Cadillac displayed a special streamlined V-16 coupe, referred to as the Aerodynamic Coupe, at the 1933 Century of Progress Exhibition in Chicago. Beginning in 1934 this spectacular style was made available for customer purchase. This example is the very last of the eight aerodynamic coupes known to have been built - and the only 1937 model, one of just 49 1937 V-16s. Cadillac abandoned the 452 model designation in 1935, thereafter designating the cars as model 16-90 or Series 90.
