1960 Chevrolet Impala Series 1700 Convertible

The Chevrolet Impala, introduced in 1958, was the new entry in the mid-priced field and it encompassed style, performance, and handling. It was initially available in the Bel Air series with special trim, wheels, a deluxe interior, a unique triple tail-lamp arrangement before it became its own nameplate.

This example has been driven only 16,100 miles since new and it has never been restored. It is an original example that has been lovingly preserved over the years. It has its original red-and-white check interior that has never been replaced. Located under the seat is the original tissue box. It does ride on new correct-type tires, has a new exhaust system, and a new soft top.

This car has had only three owners since new. It earned an AACA 1st Junior Award at Hershey, Pennsylvania, in 1994. In 2008, this original example, fitted with a 384 cubic-inch OHV V8 engine and a three-speed manual transmission, was brought to the Gooding & Company auction held in Pebble Beach. It was estimated to sell for $100,000-$130,000. Bidding failed to satisfy the vehicle's reserve, and the lot was left unsold.
