1936 Cadillac Series 60 Coupe

The Cadillac Series 60 models rode a new 121-inch wheelbase and were smaller and less expensive than their immediate predecessors. Packard had moved down market during the early 1930s and had found much success appealing to a wider audience. Cadillac followed its lead by offering a more economically viable vehicle that might increase cash flow for the company. Starting at $1,645, the Fisher-bodied Series 60 two-passenger business coupe was the lowest-priced Cadillac since 1910. But even at this price, it still costs $470 more than the Cadillac-built 1936 LaSalle Coupe, which was priced at $1,175.

Power for the Series 60 was from a 322 cubic-inch L-head monoblock V8 engine offering 125 horsepower. The larger Fleetwood-bodied Series 70 and 75 models had a 135 horsepower 346 CID version of the new engine, while the LaSalle continued to use a 115 horsepower straight eight for 1936.

Cadillac sold 25,884 automobiles in 1936 which was double their 1935 total. The lower-priced Cadillac played a large part in this success.

This 1936 Cadillac V8 Series 60 Business Coupe has the optional dual side-mounted spare tires and is believed to be one of only three 1936 Cadillac Business Coupes still in existence. It is painted in an approximation of Carnival Red, a 1936 special-order color. For many years, a Cadillac customer could order, at extra cost, almost any non-cataloged color. This Cadillac has been in the same ownership for the past 43 years.
