Following the War, Jaguar cars were named only for their engine displacement, with the 3.5-liter engine topping the line. They were retroactively known as the MK IV following the late 1948 debut of the Jaguar MK V. They were available as saloons and drophead coupe body styles and fitted with luxurious interiors that were elegantly trimmed with leather upholstery, wool carpeting, and wood veneer. In total, just 560 examples of the open cars were produced between 1946 and 1948.
This particular example is one of just 350 examples fitted with left-hand drive. The Mark IV Drophead Coupe was originally shipped to Los Angeles and has a chain of ownership in the Golden State dating back to 1980. In 2007, it was given a professional restoration, bringing it back to its original glory. Since then, it has received top prizes at several regional Northern California shows and has participated in Jaguar's 75th-anniversary celebration at the 2010 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. It was named the Best European Car at the 2008 Carmel-By-the-Sea Concours on the Avenue.By Daniel Vaughan | Feb 2015
