In 2007 this 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing was brought to the Monterey Sports & Classic Car Auction presented by RM Auctions, where it had an estimated value of $550,000-$650,000. It was offered without reserve. It is finished in silver with a black leather interior. This vehicle was order number 664 136 and was completed on June 10th of 1955, upon which it was shipped to Mercedes-Benz Distributors, Inc on June 21st of 1955. The exterior color remains as the original color, DB 180 Silver Gray Metallic. It is a numbers matching car still outfitted with the same four-speed manual gearbox and six-cylinder overhead cam engine as it left the factory. There was much interest in this vehicle and bidding reflected this desire. The high end of the estimated value was $650,000 and bidding soon surpassed those estimates before settling at $726,000 including buyer's premium. | |
