This is one of the most famous of the early Corvettes (serial number 300) and the last of the initial run of hand-built cars from the Flint, Michigan, GM factory. Originally delivered to a California doctor, it went into storage for many years before changing ownership to a Florida dentist and then to its current owner. Restored in 1984 and again in 2007, the 2008 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance was the first time the car had been seen in over 10 years. All the 1953 Corvettes came in Polo White with red interiors and black canvas roofs. They were all bodied in fiberglass and had the 'Blue-Flame' 105 horsepower, six-cylinder engine. A signal-seeking AM radio and a heater were listed as options, but all 1953 Corvettes were equipped with both items. The radio had an interesting feature: since fiberglass is electrically inert, the antenna was simply incorporated into the trunk lid. | |
