 | View more photos California Special Coupe Chassis Num: 8R01S156529 Engine Num: 8R156529 | The Ford Mustang GT California Special Coupes were the only Mustang coupes to come from the factory with Carroll Shelby body parts including Shelby fiberglass rear deck lid and quarter extensions, quarter-turn hood locks, Thunderbird/Shelby tail lights, Shelby brake scoops, and Lucas fog lamps. This car came equipped from the factory with a 'J' code 302 four-barrel engine, dual exhaust, power disc brakes, power steering, factory air conditioning, vinyl top, automatic transmission.
The original owner of this car was a 17-year old who modified the car with such additions as candy paint, fender flares, and leopard print upholstery. After that the car was sold several times and eventually was restored on two separate occasions. The car appeared in Mustang Illustrated during 2001 as 'Project Something Special,' and also appeared in the January 2008 issue of Muscle Car Review. The California Special, or GT/CS, was marketed by Ford for 5 1/2 months in 1968 as a limited edition model. Just over 4000 examples were made.
