Fiat (Fabbica Italiana Automobili Torino) was founded in Turin, Italy in 1899. Giovanni Agnelli was one of the original share-builders and his family is still involved in running the company. The 500L is an upgraded version of the 500E. The car was designed by Dante Giacosa. It was manufactured from 1968 through 1972. The 500 redefined the term 'small car' and is considered one of the first 'city cars.'

The engine is a 499.5cc air-cooled, overhead valve, inline, 2-cylinder that develops 22 bhp at 4400 RPM, and is capable of 59 mph.
