1957 Alfa Romeo 1900 CSS Coupe

Carrosserie Ghia SA, Aigle was founded on April 30th of 1948 by Dr. Pierre-Paul Filippi, a Torinese physician. The firm bodied cars to Ghia designs in Switzerland. The Turin-based Carrozzeria Ghia was owned by Mario Boano at the time and its post-war products were initially styled by him. Later, design duties were handled by Giovanni Michelotti and then by Pietro Frua.

The firm relocated from Aigle in September of 1954 to Lugano, remaining there until April of 1958 when it returned to Aigle. When traditional coachbuilding practices began to fade away in the early 1960s, the firm began concentrating on repairs and the manufacture of bodies for ambulances, removal vans and other commercial applications thereafter. In the mid-1980s, the firm was liquidated.

This particular example was probably designed by Giovanni Michelotti and is one of approximately ten Alfa Romeos bodied by Carrosserie Ghia, Aigle. The car was purchased in Switzerland by its current owner.
