The 250 SE Cabriolet Mercedes was powered by a 2.5-liter six-cylinder engine that could achieve speeds of nearly 120 mph. This was a tremendous accomplishment for the five-passenger vehicle as it weighed 3,285 pounds. The cars featured 14-inch wheels and a hydro-pneumatic unit on the rear axle. Disc brakes could be found on all four corners, which greatly increased the cars performance. In 2008 this example was brought to the Automobiles of Amelia presented by RM Auctions where it was estimated to sell for $40,000-$60,000. It was offered without reserve and sold for $46,750 including buyer's premium. This car is painted in its original silver blue livery and fitted with a new manually operated dark blue Haartz cloth top. The interior is blue vinyl with a refinished wood dash. There are blue carpets, chrome accents, and real wood appointments in the cabin. The trunk is fully lined and capable of carrying adequate amount of luggage and cargo. This car has the rare optional four-speed transmission and a 170 horsepower six-cylinder engine. By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2008 |
