Over the length of the Lancia Appias production, a number of special bodied Appias were produced, including a coupe by Pininfarina, a convertible by Vignale and an aluminum bodied GT Sport by Zagato. The Appia Sedan on which these were based was renowned for its high quality and engineering refinement. All of the 200 Zagato Sports had the 1.1-liter narrow-angle V4 engine, which provided spirited performance for the all aluminum aerodynamic body. This car was first shown by Gerald Freck at the Pebble Beach Concours in 1963 and won First in Class. Mr. Freck was meticulous about his collection of Lancias, going to great lengths to protect their originality. It is a testament to him that the car remains in very original condition; it is said that three of its tires still contain Italian air!
