For 1959 Chrysler Corporation's Plymouth division chose the new Sport Fury as its top-of-the-line car, but dropped the model at the end of the year only for it to reappear again in mid-1962. The 'regular' Fury, starting also in 1959, was then stepped-down to replace the Plymouth Belvedere range. The Sport Fury, unlike the Fury with multiple versions, was available only as a 2-door coupe or convertible.

The Fury that is associated with the Stephen King novel and John Carpenter adaptation cult movie Christine is a 1958, not a 1959, but given that it is possessed with supernatural forces it has often confused viewers as to which car it really is.
