In 1966 Rolls-Royce introduced an all-new model, the Silver Shadow. This was a significant departure from previous models with a high-pressure hydraulic system for the brakes and hydraulic rams above the springs for leveling, an electric motor to select transmission ranges rather than the normal shift lever which was replaced by a small electric switch operated by a small lever and a heating and air conditioning system operated by small electric servo motors controlled by switches rather than the usual vacuum actuators. The engine is a 6.7-liter aluminum V-8 coupled to a GM Turbo Hydramatic transmission.
Introduced in 1975 and produced through 1986, the Camargue is based on the 120-inch wheelbase Silver Shadow but has a completely different body styled by Pininfarina and build by the Rolls-Royce Mulliner Park Ward division. It was the premier Rolls-Royce model and the most expensive, selling near the end of production for the equivalent of $320,000 in 2015 dollars. The car was not successful in the market place either in the United Kingdom or the United States and by the time production ended in 1986 only 530 were sold.
The original owner of this Camargue was a New York-based Japanese businessman in the fashion industry who had it shipped to his Hawaiian home for his use there. The current owner saw it there and is now the second owner.
