Harry Stutz began producing automobiles in 1911, and he entered one of his early cars in the 1911 Indianapolis 500. This car would finish in 11th place. From this, the company adopted the slogan, 'the car that made good in a day.' Unfortunately, the company's finances were not very good and it would change ownership three times by 1922. While known primarily as a sports car, Stutz also offered many safety features, such as safety glass and an exceptionally low center of gravity.
The designation MB referred to the longer 145-inch wheelbase, while MA indicated a 143.5-inch wheelbase. It is believed that only three convertible coupe MB models were built. This prime example of an MB features a raked-angle windshield and backlight. It also features an overhead cam straight-eight engine with dual ignition, a four-speed transmission, power-assisted hydraulic brakes, and an aluminum body.
This car originally sold for a lofty $4,455. In 1954, it was advertised for sale for $650 in a vintage car magazine. One obstacle to the sale was that the purchaser was newly married and a recent graduate of General Motors Institute. His wife had earmarked the funds for household furniture and she was not particularly happy with the decision to purchase.
