Considered by many to be the finest automobile ever built, the metaphor 'It's a Duesie!' remains a part of the American lexicon to this day. In St. Paul, Minnesota in 1913, the Duesenberg brothers began building the most successful racing cars made in America. Their race-bred overhead cam straight-eight engine with aluminum pistons and hydraulically-operated four-wheel brakes were both firsts for American industry. The brothers moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey, in 1916 to build military engines. When their government contracts were canceled in 1919, the company moved to Indianapolis. Late in 1926, Duesenberg became part of the E.L. Cord empire.
This particular example features a five-passenger convertible victoria body by the New York City concern of Rollston. Most of the Rollston convertible victorias had the blind quarter top; this quarter window type is especially rare. It is built on a 153.5-inch long-wheelbase chassis and is fitted with the normally aspirated 420 cubic-inch straight-eight that produces 265 horsepower.
A body-off-frame restoration was completed in 2002, including a complete engine rebuild. Also included is a full photo album of before, during, and after. Awards: 2002 AACA National First Place, 2002 CCCA (100) Points, 2002 First in Class @ Meadowbrook, Best Duesenberg @ Meadowbrook, Best Automotive Finish for entire field @ Meadowbrook, 2002 AACA National Award for being best Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg of the Year and received other local 1st place awards.
