2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Shooting Brake Shooting Brake

  • Chassis Number: SCFNMCUZ4KGJ54520
Aston Martin's relationship with the Italian styling house of Carrozzeria Zagato dates back to the early 1960s with the building of 19 special competition cars on the DB4 GT chassis. Zagato's reputation was formed well before that time, including a succession of lightweight sports and GT cars for marques such as Alfa Romeo and Lancia.

The Shooting Brake for Aston Martin by Zagato was one of four projects that wore styling by Zagato, the others being a Volante, a Coupe, and a Speedster. Production was planned to be exclusive, with 28 Speedsters, and 99 examples (each) of the other Zagato designs, with the total being 325 units.

Production of the Zagato-bodied designs began in 2016 with the Vanquish Zagato Coupe, followed by the Vanquish Zagato Volante announced on August 15th of 2017 in Carmel California. At the same time, it was confirmed that the Vanquish Zagato Speedster would enter production along with a Vanquish Zagato Shooting Brakes. Only partial photographs were shown of the Shooting Brake until October 2017 when the entire car was revealed. Prior to the announcement of the Shooting Brake production, all 99 examples had been pre-sold.

All four Zagato designs were based on the Vanquish S and powered by the naturally-aspirated, 6.0-liter, 48 valve, dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) V12 engine with multipoint sequential fuel injection and delivering 580 horsepower at 7,000 RPM. The engine was backed by an 8-speed Touchtronic III transaxle. The adaptive suspension damping system was fine-tuned for each model and four-wheel vented carbon-ceramic disc brakes provided the stopping power.

Its outward appearance suggests the Shooting Brakes would have seating for more than two occupants, but that is not the case. The extended roof features the Zagato double-bubble profile complete with glass inlays to let light flood into the cockpit. There is a powered tailgate that when opened, reveals a luxuriously trimmed rear cabin area, complete with a tailored luggage set. The front passenger compartment features anodized bronze rotary controls, extensive 'Z' motif quilting, and the option of fully aniline leather upholstery.

This particular example is number 25 of 99 total cars. It is finished in a shade of sanguine paint called Hyper Red with a Coral Sand leather interior. When new, it received nearly $70,000 of optional equipment, the most expensive of which is the carbon fiber boot floor at $19,000. Its stick price of $917,216.00 makes it one of the most expensive vehicles of its era. Currently, it has well under 100 miles on the odometer.
