1938 Mercedes-Benz 170V Cabriolet A

The Mercedes-Benz Type 170 was launched in 1935 as a mid-priced luxury automobile and remained in production through 1949 (albeit not during World War II). The X-shaped frame was constructed from lightweight oval tubing and wore several useful and attractive body styles, including 4/5 seat sedans, open tourers, convertibles, and even taxis, ambulances, trucks, and delivery vans. The Cabriolet A was produced from 1936 through 1938 with 794 examples built during that time.

Mounted at the front was a 1.7-liter inline four-cylinder engine rated at 38 horsepower. The 'V' in the vehicle's name represented 'Vorn' or 'Front' in English. The engine was paired to a four-speed manual transmission with synchronizers in third and fourth gear.

This Cabriolet A is a late production example that was previously owned and restored by Mario Sueiras of Guatemala. Its current owner purchased the car in 2014 and had it imported to the United States.
