For 1989, the Jaguar XK6 had a base price of $43,500 while the Vanden Plas Edition sold for $47,500. The most significant change was to the engine and the final drive ratio. The engine received a compression boost to 9.6:1 and offered nearly 200 horsepower. The ZF four-speed automatic now had a 3.58:1 final drive (up from 2.88:1) and disc brakes at all four corners. The zero-to-sixty MPH time increased from 10.4 seconds to 9.6 seconds. This increase in power in speed did not sacrifice the vehicle's fuel mileage significantly, but it did require the use of premium gasoline. Standard equipment included power windows, power door locks (with infrared remote control), heated power mirrors, intermittent wipers, self-leveling suspension, Bosch anti-lock brakes, a trip computer, power front bucket seats with leather facings, tinted glass, rear defogger and fog lamps, folding rear armrest, seatback pockets, console with cassette storage, and a map light. Pirelli P5 205/70R15 tires and alloy wheels were also standard. The dashboard featured an analog tachometer and speedometer, plus LED gauges, and an electronically-tuned AM/FM stereo with a channel-19 CB monitor. Vanden Plas models added headlamp washers, heated front seats, walnut picnic tables complete with seatbacks, full leather seat trim, rear reading lamps, rear storage armrest, and a limited-slip differential.
