1982 Toyota Celica

Toyota produced the Celica from December 1970 to April 2006 through several major styling revisions, offered in various body styles that included liftbacks, coupes, convertibles, and notchback coupes, with power sourced from four-cylinder engines.

The 1982 Toyota Celica wore the Third Generation of styling introduced the previous year and built through 1985. It continued to rest atop a 98.4-inch wheelbase platform with a 174.6-inch length, a width of 65.6 inches, and a height of 51.6 inches. It was an inch longer and an inch wider than the previous generation. Body styles included a two-door convertible, a two-door notchback coupe, and a three-door liftback coupe.

Examples destined for the North American market received the 2.4-liter 22R (later the 22R-E) engine; smaller engines powered Celica's destined for other markets (including 1.6-liter 4A, 1.6-liter 2T, 1.8-liter 3T, 1.8-liter 4T, 1.8-liter 1S, 2.0-liter 2S, 2.0-liter 18R-G and 2.0-liter 21R). North American market cars came standard with fuel injection from August 1982, with the 22R becoming the 22R-E.

The inline, overhead-cam, four-cylinder engine displaced 144 cubic-inches (2.4 liter / 2,366cc) and and delivered 96 horsepower at 4,800 RPM and 192 foot-lbs of torque at 2,800 RPM with a two-barrel carburetor. The Celica Supra received an inline, overhead-cam six-cylinder engine with a 168 cubic-inch displacement, 8.0:1 compression, fuel injection, and delivered 116 hp at 4,800 RPM and 145 lbs-ft of torque at 3,600 RPM

Transmission options included a four-speed A40D automatic and a five-speed manual.

The GT-S trim (North American market) added larger 14x7 inch wheels wrapped with 225/60HR14 tires and concealed with wider fender flares. The interior gained special seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter knob.

The Celica ST Sport Coupe was priced at $6,700, the GT Sport Coupe at $7,430, the GT Liftback at $7,660, and the Celica Supra GT Sport Coupe at $11,300.
