Alfa Romeo introduced the Giulietta near the close of 1962 as a replacement for the Giulia. Power was sourced from a 1.6-liter, 109 horsepower version of Alfa Romeo's classic double-overhead-camshaft four sourced from the Giulia Sprint GTV. In 1966, a new Spider was introduced wearing a design by Pininfarina and penned by the founder himself, Battista 'Pinin Farina.' It had a round tail inspired by the early-1950s 'Disco Volante' race cars.
ConvertibleThe Alfa Romeo 1600, its official factory name, received the 'Duetto' designation from a competition held by Alfa Romeo to distinguish the car from its Giulia 105 series stablemates, the Coupé and Berlina. 'Duetto' was in reference to its two-seat layout and this designation was only applied to the 1600 model. Two later variants, the 1750 Veloce and 1300 Junior, did not receive the 'Duetto' designation. The monocoque body was manufactured by Pininfarina, and the mechanicals were essentially those of the 105-Series Giulia saloon. Stopping power was by four-wheel disc brakes, and the suspension was comprised of an independent setup in the front with a coil-suspended live rear axle. The 1.6-liter engine delivered 107 horsepower and propelled the Duetto from zero-to-sixty mph in approximately 11 seconds and to a top speed of 116 mph.The popularity of the Duetto was taken to new heights when it played a starring role alongside Dustin Hoffman in the film, The Graduate.
ConvertibleProduction of the Duetto was brief, lasting from 1966 to 1967 when it was superseded by the 1.8-liter '1750' Spider Veloce in 1967.

Time slowly reduces the automobile, once a potent symbol of sex and freedom, to a bland and inoffensive mass of soft plastic, crumple zones, and gray velour an air bag-lined capsule of toiling isolation. Engine sizes shrink and....
