2005 Seat Altea FR news, pictures, and information

SEAT will hold the world premiere of the prototype of the future Altea FR at the forthcoming Frankfurt International Motor Show, to be held from 15 to 25 September (press days 12th, 13th and 14th). This car gives a preview of the series version which will reach the market in the early 2006 and inaugurates the new generation of the Spanish brand's FR range.

This month, SEAT also starts the launch of the new León in the main European markets.

SEAT's most powerful Diesel engine

The prototype of the Altea FR incorporates the new 170 hp 2.0 TDI (125 kW) engine wîth four valves per cylinder, the most powerful Diesel engine in the history of SEAT. These mechanics, a technological development of the 140 hp 2.0 TDI, transmit their power to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.

In addition, this engine meets the minimum levels required by the European Únion EÚ4 emission standards and enables the Altea to reach a maximum speed of 208 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds.

The design of the prototype also gives you that sporty feeling. Its accentuated wedge shape, its compact proportions, designer bumper and 18' chromed alloy wheels wîth 225/40 tyres give it a seductive, extrovert appearance, which is both elegant and sporty at the same time.

The exterior stands out due to the contrast between the two bodywork colours. The entire car is painted silver except for the roof, the bonnet cover strip, the strips which cover the windscreen wipers and the headlight casings, all of which are painted in shiny black. And among the silver and black, the chromed features stand out: the exterior rear view mirrors, the wheel trims and the double exhaust wîth 70 mm diameter polished exhaust pipes.

In any case, what attracts the attention most is the adhesive graphic wîth the initials 'FR' along each side, running from the B-pillar to the C-pillar, wîth a height that runs from the base of the doors to just below the door handles. This graphic is an exclusive feature of the prototype.

The interior of the Altea FR prolongs the sporting sensations transmitted by the exterior. The interior stands out due to the items in Ona silver and the leather-covered components. In silver are the roof lining, the handles, the glasses holder on the driver's side and the fittings on the glove compartment and the entire dashboard, a finish wîth a sporty look and great visual appeal.

Leather upholstery is used on the §teering wheel, the door panels, gear stick cover, handbrake cover, instrument panel cover and the four separate sports design seats wîth the FR logo embroidered at the top of the seatback. The FR logo can also be found printed on the instrument panel, gear knob and in the form of a small badge on the §teering wheel.

The Altea FR also includes bi-functional adaptive xenon headlights, which adapt to the layout of the road and, like the rest of the range, it also offers sliding rear seats.
